Fatty Liver Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, Fatty Liver is known as Yakrit Yoga. according to Ayurveda, this disease is caused by the imbalance of Doshas. Fatty Liver is caused when Pitta Dosha is not balanced, Kapha is aggravated, and toxins which are known as Ama build up in the liver. The reason behind fatty liver is not just one, this ailment is often a result of a sedentary lifestyle, imbalanced diet, processed food, or excessive alcohol consumption. Kapha is affected by the consumption of oily, heavy, and processed food. Similarly, the intake of fried, oily, and acidic food affects Pitta, leading to liver dysfunction and inflammation.
There are various methods to diagnose the Fatty Liver. The Ayurvedic diagnostic includes methods like Nadi Parikshan (Pulse Diagnostic), Netra Parikshan (Eye Diagnosis), Sparsha Pariksha (Palpation), Jihva Pariksha (Tongue Examination), Mutra and mal Parikshan (Urine and Stool Analysis). Nadi Parikshan identifies the imbalance in Pitta-Kapha Dosha. In Jihva Parikshan, if the tongue is thick and coated then it indicates toxin buildup and fatty liver. Similarly, dullness in the eyes or yellowish discoloration of the eyes indicates liver issues. Tender liver area in Sparsha Parikshan and Yellow urine along with pale stools also indicate liver problems.
Furthermore, our ancient medical science, Ayurveda classifies the ailment of a Fatty Liver into two. First is a Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver known as Medo Yakrit Roga and the second is Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease known as Madatyaya Yakrit Roga in Ayurveda.
