Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the list of most frequently asked questions and thier answers about ayurveda therapies and treatments from the Ayurveda experts.

1. Why to choose Ayurvedic treatment instead of other medical treatments?

Ayurveda takes the approach of eliminating the cause of the ailment rather than treating the symptoms as done by other treatments. Hence an Ayurvedic treatment will truly eliminate the malady you have been suffering from. Another advantage is that Ayurveda uses the least chemicals and follows natural therapy which means there are no side effects.

2. What is the difference between Ayurveda and Western Medical system?

Ayurveda is not opposed to western medicine. It is a myth that Ayurveda is opposite the western medical system. In fact in some cases a combination therapy can work wonders. Ayurveda differs from the western medicine in the way it treats disease. Western medicine groups treatment by symptoms and treats people having same symptoms as similar. Ayurveda on the other hand works on the cause of disease rather than symptoms and treats every individual as a unique entity and the therapy is specialized in each case.

3. How are diseases diagnosed in Ayurveda?

Ayurveda takes the two step approach to diagnosing the cause of the disease. This ancient medical system works on the cause rather than the symptoms, so for a person getting first time treatment the system of diagnostic may seem strange. The first step is physical examination which includes checking pulse, marks on the body and by interrogating about the disease from patients’ experience. The second step is to determine the strength of the body which determines the kind of therapy which will be applied. This examination constitutes examining tissue quality, physique, mental strength, adaptability and body constitution (As per Tridoshas), capacity of food intake, ability of exerting (exercise) and the age of the individual. On this basis the strength of the body is determined as extremely strong, intermediate strength and low strength. Only after the two steps the therapy can be determined.

4. Why does the treatment take a long time?

Ayurveda works on the causes of the disease, and focuses on rooting out the cause. Hence the diagnostic procedure takes a longer time than normal western medical diagnostics. The treatment also follows a different approach of detoxifying and then rejuvenating in that order. Hence it takes time for getting treated, but the treatment does not use chemicals much and makes the individual feel healthy without any side effects.

5. How is health defined in Ayurveda?

Health in Ayurveda means an equilibrium state of the body. The equilibrium is of the Tridoshas, Dhatu, Mala and also the basic elements which lead to a peaceful mind, responsive body and pure soul. It was compiled by Sage Charaka around 1500 B.C. The physical examination and treatment with herbs is given in detail in this book. Shushruta Samhita was written by Sage Shushruta who is also known as the father of surgery.
